Common Emerald

This is a Common Emerald moth, found in my house the other night. For a while I was stumped to identify it, as it looks more like a butterfly, a Skipper maybe. The judicious use of a couple of websites led to the thrilling prospect of it being the rare Sussex Emerald, not usually found in Sussex anymore! Michael Blencowe (one of the county Butterfly Recorders) put me right, and the UK Moths site has more details. It was gorgeous in any case, a dark turquoisey-green, with pale marbled edges, I'd never seen anything like it before. It stayed in the house overnight but appears to have gone now. 

Scarlet Tiger moth

Michael also pointed me to the Scarlet Tiger, which is starting to make an appearance back in Brighton, and so if anyone sees it, let the UK Moths people know, please! (Where exactly, what time of day/night, etc)
